Spring Beekeeping Courses

Late winter leaves me with a longing for beekeeping. My local bee club doesn’t have a meeting in January, and the February meeting, at least this time, was about negotiating constitutional changes—a far cry from the spirit of the club’s fundamental purpose, but the necessary work of any organization. There is, however, some hope: February means the beginning of our annual bee school, which spans the weekends of early spring, and brings with it the intense enthusiasm that only new beekeepers can have. This time of year does a lot to fulfill my want for all things beekeeping. If you’re like me and beekeeping is your thing, nothing is more exciting or informative than a few classes and some fellowship with other lovers of the honey bee.

Finding beekeeping courses is typically not difficult in most states. The North Carolina State Beekeepers Association does a good job of keeping North Carolinians informed about upcoming bee schools. You only have to navigate to http://ncbeekeepers.org/courses.htm to find out which club is having a beekeeping course.

If you’re interested in keeping bees, look around. You might find a beekeeping course nearby and some good beekeepers to help you get started.
